News Release First American Scientific Corp ( FASC-OTC, BB)
December 10, 2002
First American Scientific Corp (FASC-OTC, BB) announces
Atlantic Packaging Products Ltd. signs letter of intent to purchase
KDS equipment.
First American Scientific Corp., and its subsidiary Alternative
Green Energy Systems Inc. (AGES), are pleased to announce that AGES
has received a letter of intent to purchase "up to 6 production
scale KDS machines" from Atlantic Packaging Products Ltd. upon
successful completion of a 180 day extended trial to be conducted
at Atlantic's Whitby, Ontario paper mill. Atlantic Packaging, one
of the largest independent paper recycler / de-inker in North America,
produces tissue paper, newsprint, and linerboard. The equipment
has been delivered and will be installed immediately.
The KDS system will be part of a full run 24 hour a day pulp mill
operation and will be improved and adapted to de-water Atlantic's
bio-solids/ sludge waste stream. Atlantic's interest lies not only
in the KDS system's ability to produce a combustible powder from
its waste sludge, but AGES engineer's have proven and enhanced the
system's ability to separate the inert non-combustible clay from
the existing fiber, leaving a higher BTU value in the combustible
fiber and a valuable pure white kaolin clay by-product that can
be sold or re-cycled back into the paper making process. Patents
for this new innovation are pending.
Under the agreement, Atlantic will provide space, energy, installation,
maintenance and expertise, as well as a continuous supply of pulp
sludge. The purpose of the trials is to prove equipment reliability
on extended runs, gather operating data, and determine adaptability
of use in Atlantic's paper mill. According to Atlantic, "If
the technology can provide an operationally and financially viable
solution for handling our sludge, it is Atlantic's intent to purchase
up to 6 production scale KDS machines." If the sale proceeds,
Atlantic will be awarded exclusive representation rights for KDS
technology for de-ink and recycle facilities in Ontario for a three
year period and the Atlantic Packaging site will become a show case
for introducing this technology to the pulp & paper industry.
Mr. William Barber, President of AGES comments "the de-watering
of pulp sludge to create a fine dry green fuel source will achieve
significant energy savings for mill operations, and will virtually
eliminate disposal costs. Add to that, the value of separating out
the kaolin clay, and I believe we will revolutionize the way the
pulp & paper industry handles its waste."
